Our story
We find, develop and commercialise Australian gas and oil for domestic markets. We work to deliver a stable and secure supply of domestic gas into markets along the east coast at the low end of the cost curve.
Cooper Energy is one of many companies leading the charge in responding to climate change. We support Australia’s prosperity in the new ‘net zero emissions’ economy while supporting jobs and businesses, especially in regional Australia. We have voluntarily become Australia’s first Climate Active certified carbon neutral domestic gas producer.

History
Incorporated in 2001 in response to a recognised demand for gas and oil.
Our company operations and the results they yielded were quickly recognised as a sound investment; we went on to be listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) on 13 March 2002.
Since then we have grown significantly and assembled a team of more than 100 with a plan to continue to deliver strong outcomes to our shareholders.

Gas accounts for the major share of the company’s sales revenue, production and reserves.
Gas production
We supply gas for domestic and industrial use in South-east Australia from our operations at offshore Victoria in the Gippsland Basin (Sole gas field) and Otway Basin (Casino, Henry and Netherby gas fields).
Gas project development
The Athena Gas Plant in Victoria provides a low-cost processing hub for Otway Basin gas and we are analysing the opportunity for the development of new supply from discoveries such as Annie.
We acquired the Orbost Gas Processing Plant in 2022 to process natural gas from the Gippsland Basin (our existing Sole Gas assets) for the South-east domestic market.
Gas supply contracts
We have a growing portfolio of gas supply contracts. Our customers include AGL Energy, Alinta Energy, EnergyAustralia and VISY.
Gas exploration
We hold exploration permits and conduct exploration for competitive new sources of gas supply in South-east Australia. In 2020 this exploration resulted in the Annie gas discovery offshore Victoria and the Dombey gas discovery in the onshore Otway Basin, South Australia.
